Iris Kamwi Kaingu is a resilient and grassroots-focused Zambian politician contesting the Mwandi Constituency parliamentary seat as an Independent candidate in the 2026 general election [1, 2]. The daughter of former Cabinet Minister Michael Kaingu, she first ran for the seat in 2021 under the Patriotic Front (PF) banner before transitioning briefly to the United Party for National Development (UPND) in 2025 to align local development with the ruling government. Following local party friction, she officially resigned from the UPND in June 2026 to campaign as an independent, running an issue-based platform that heavily prioritizes healthcare upgrades, road rehabilitation, youth empowerment, and close collaboration with the Barotse Royal Establishment in the Western Province.
